2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
5 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
Frosting:
1/2 cup butter; room temp
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
4 cups powdered sugar
5 Tbsp milk
food coloring (if desired)
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each egg. Add vanilla & mix well. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt & soda & stir with a whisk to combine. Add to wet mixture and mix just until combined. Spread on a greased baking sheet (I used a 13 x 18 half sheet pan). Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 min, until light golden brown or until a toothpick comes out clean.
For frosting combine butter and shortening until smooth and creamy. Add vanilla and salt. Add powdered sugar in 1-2 cup increments until combined, then add milk & mix until smooth and spreading consistency.
If you LOVE frosted sugar cookies (and seriously, who doesn't???), but don't like all of the work associated with making them...these babies are for you. The cookie is a cross between a cake & a cookie and the frosting...oh...the frosting...!!!!! Treats with frosting have never offended me.
(I dare you to figure out the points...)

...and they are so good for you! I didn't know butter was a food group. I can't wait!!!
These look amazing. I am printing them out to make right now. I love sugar cookies but in bar form? Perfect.
oh...my...gosh!!!
YUM!! I think I used some points just looking at the pictures!
I love this idea. I think I may try them for Valetines. They won't be heart shaped by you could dress them up with sprinkles or candies.
All I can say is YUM!
I made these today and they are SO good! My family loves them! Thanks for a great recipe!
just catching up with you! Oh my goodness, you are amazing again and again!!
I'm making these for a friendship dinner this weekend. Thank you for the many great ideas!
I LOVE sugar cookies and I can't wait to try these! You said, "Spread on a greased baking sheet"... I was wondering what size of baking sheet works best? Can you add a comment in your comments section of this recipe and let us know? Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes! Jodie
I used a 12x17 (half sheet pan), but I think you could split it up btwn two reg cookie sheets if you don't have that size. Also splitting it up in two 9x13 pans would work. I also increased the baking time. Some times it has taken up to 15 min. Just watch them after 12.
THanks for the question! I hope this helps!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for the info on the pan size...I want to make them for Valentine's Day with little heart sprinkles! Jodie :)
Thank you for sending samples with John to work today. I walked into the kitchen and there was one left. One look and I knew exactly who had made them. Delicious! Good thing there was only one left or I may still be eating...
I'm really intrigued and I love the idea of not having to roll out the dough! I'm stuck on the 5 cups of flour though - that seems like so much!
I made these today and they are very good. After they were done baking instead of cutting into bars I used heart shaped cookie cutters and then decorated with frosting and sprinkles. Thanks for the great recipe!
OK, these are delicious, and I did figure out the points...how many did you get from 1 recipe? That will decide if I have blown my whole week or not...
MYELLA good!!!
